Best Remote Working Spots in Truckee, CA

Truckee is a small town with many, many remote working options that will allow you to click-clack away on your computer. I’ve worked at all these remote-work locations in Truckee, and often bounce between them, depending on my mood or needs at the time.

This list is not exhaustive, there are many more places in Truckee to sit down and work from your laptop, but these are my faves. I hope you visit one while you’re here. If you do, make sure and comment, and let me know what you thought!

Working remotely at Drink Coffee Do Stuff in Downtown Truckee, CA.

Coffeebar Downtown Truckee

The good: The patio. In the warmer season, they have a beautiful patio tucked in the crook of the L-shaped building. Trees shade the area and there is plenty of seating for groups and solo visitors. The food is excellent as well. I love their veggie breakfast burrito with a side of their sriracha aioli, when it’s available — it sells out fast. They have a huge selection of coffees, teas, and more, including a selection of wine.

The not-so-good: The Wi-Fi. It’s hit or miss whether or not I’m going to get good Wi-Fi here. So just be prepared to possibly use a personal hotspot just in case, especially if you choose to work outside.

Darkhorse Coffee Roasters

The good: It’s super cozy. I love coming here to work in the winter and throughout the cold season. It’s got a hippie/artist vibe, so if you’re into crystals, local art, stickers, and that sort of thing, this is your spot. They roast their coffee right there on the premises, which is pretty cool too.

The not-so-good: Seating is really limited, so there is always a chance that you’ll get there with computer in hand, ready to work, and there won’t be a spot for you to plonk down. Also, parking is tricky. Most likely you’ll have to pay to park in the Jax Diner parking lot. Food is also limited here, so if you’re looking for a home-baked pastry to go with your coffee, look somewhere else. They do have waffles though.

Drink Coffee, Do Stuff

The good: It’s perfect for remote working. Right in the heart of Downtown Truckee, post up at the bar along the window and watch the trains roll by. Plus, I think their Pines Latte with sage is the best coffee I have ever had.

The not-so-good: The baristas play the music in there really loud. I usually bring my airpods so I can drown it out with my own beats. The food selection is small, mostly bagels and a few smoothies.

Wild Cherries

The good: They have a delicious and healthy food menu. Sandwiches, soups, smoothies, and it’s all made right there in the small kitchen. They also have great WiFi and a lot of seating. Get the Breakfast Smoothie, but add blueberries, and don’t skip the peanut butter.

The not-so-good: The ambience is like a cafeteria. It’s noisy, popular (loud and long lines sometimes), with a lot of people shuffling in and out.

Red Truck at the Truckee Airport

The good: This is one of my favorite places in Truckee to work remotely. The food is amazing, hard to categorize, but today’s daily special (it’s also one of the more popular specials) is the Bahn Mi Style Fried Chicken Sando: topped with a sweet soy drizzle, sambal aioli, and zesty cucumber slaw on a house-made poppyseed bun. Served with a side green salad. But my personal go-to is the Caesar Salad with Chicken Tikka Masala. They have vegan and plenty of vegetarian options as well.

The not-so-good: It’s also cafeteria style, with lots of traffic. In the winter, it’s pretty cold in there, so bring a jacket. It also gets really busy for lunch, so come before or after the rush.

Coffeebar West End Truckee

The good: The recent expansion brought a lot more seating, and it seems like they designed this space specifically for working remotely. There is a long bar to sit at with plenty of outlets to plug in to. They have a huge menu with pizza, sandwiches, fresh pastries, and lots of gluten-free options.

The not-so-good: It’s really cold in there in the winter. Bring your jacket.

Coffeebar Palisades Tahoe

The good: Again, a great menu with lots of choices. Lots of seating here and epic views of the ski resort.

The not-so-good: Busy in winter, hard to get to, and parking is on a reservation system. I recommend saving this spot for a summer visit, unless you’re already at the resort skiing and just need a work break.
